Can I reserve space to study?

Unfortunately, no. Reservations are only permitted for events and programs with a global or international focus. Otherwise, all of our spaces are first come, first served - in other words, if a Nook is empty, you are welcome to use it to study! Any reservations for the day can be found via our Events Calendar and Instagram profile.

Can I serve food and beverages at my event in the Global Hub?

Yes. Pre-packaged food is preferred and event hosts must provide their own plates, cups, utensils, serveware, etc. Please indicate in your reservation request form that you will be serving food/beverages.

Please also be mindful to clean up after the event!

Can I schedule a visit to the Global Hub in order to familiarize myself with the space and possibly do a run-throuigh prior to the event?

Yes, we welcome and encourage you to visit! If you would like to visit prior to the event and/or schedule a run-through, please email globalhub@pitt.edu at least 2 weeks prior to the event so that we can best accommodate you.

Can I bring signage to my event?

Absolutely! In fact, we encourage it. If your signage requires an easel, please bring this with you, as well! Please note, however, that it is not permitted to use tape to affix decorations or signs to any furniture, design, walls, or architectural element in the Global Hub.

I have a presentation I would like to show during my event. What do I need to bring?

You will need:

  • A laptop or other personal device with an HDMI port or USB port
  • Any necessary adapters
  • A battery charger
  • Wireless presenter (if needed)

You will also want to consider the size of the group that will attend, as larger audiences (more than 30 people) could have difficulty hearing presentations in the Global Hub.

Please note that if you plan to show multiple presentations during the event, we strongly advise that you do so using one laptop only. Therefore, we recommend that you combine any presentations on one laptop that will be used during the event.

If this is not possible, please email globalhub@pitt.edu at least 78 hours ahead of your reservation time.

I would like to show an international film, interview, or news recording. Is this possible?

Yes! As the Global Hub is a very public space, we ask that all media being displayed on our large Experience Wall screen is appropriate (i.e. no nudity or explicit content). If you have the film on BluRay, that is preferred. Otherwise, please have the media on a laptop with an HDMI port and we can play it off of our large Experience Wall screen that way.

You will also need to make sure that you are adhering to Public Peformance Rights when showing a commercial film. Specific questions about this should be directed towards the ULS Office of Scholarly Communication and Publishing.

I need seating for 50+ people. Do you have the space?

Large group events should carefully consider their needs for sound amplification. The Global Hub space may not be conducive to large group events that will require everyone attending to hear information that is being presented and is not appropriate for gatherings like receptions. Events of this nature create a cacophony that could be distracting for classes or study areas nearby.

The Global Hub can seat 45-50 people comfortably, with additional standing room. However, we do not have 50 chairs in the space. The existing furniture seats 27-30 people. Event hosts are responsible for bringing the necessary furniture outside of what we already have in the Global Hub. Chairs and other furniture can be ordered through Facilities Management.

I am part of a group or organization outside of Pitt. Can I host my event in the Global Hub?

We will always give priority to university students, staff, and faculty. However, if you are non-university group and would like to host an event for university students that is internationally/globally-focused, you must find a university group to sponsor you. Once that is in place, please email globalhub@pitt.edu with your proposal.
